My Approach

I tutor using Google Meet and Google Docs. The documents act as a whiteboard to work on and a space in which to save worksheets and notes; these can then be filed in subfolders, to make revision easier for students.

Lessons are 60 minutes long.

At the start, we formulate the lesson goals and what we want to achieve in our time together. At the end, we reflect on what has been learned and set up any work to be completed outside of our lesson.

Working with a tutor is different to working with a teacher: students can be more honest about what they struggle with and significant progress can be made in a short amount of time, due to the focused attention and support that they receive. One of the best aspects of my job is watching a student’s confidence grow, as this positively impacts their other subjects at school.

My Timings

I have tutored the same students from Year 7 right through to Year 11. Most of my placements tend to be Years 9-11, and then Years 12-13. Some students book me for catch up sessions or exam booster sessions, in which case our tutoring arrangement can last anything from a few weeks to a few months. I am happy to be flexible according to a student's individual needs.

As I teach part-time in a school, I tend to tutor in my evenings (from 5pm), but I do have some day slots available on certain days of the week.
